Dear Meditator,
So another year is coming to a close. I find it amazing that we are able to experience time in two ways - that days and weeks can seem to take a such a long time, and at the same time can seem to evaporate! A fascinating phenomenon. This is another proof of the non-absolute nature of time, that time and space are defined by the state of consciousness of the beholder. A topic of discussion for another day!
It has been another great year at The Meditation Centre, with many people from all walks of life taking up meditation for all kinds of reasons - young children, students, parents, professionals, elite sportspeople, those challenged by health issues. We live in demanding and ever-changing times and more and more people are realising the very practical and real benefits of sitting each day to settle the mind, and as you have heard me say "hit the pressure valve and fill up the tank". It is a real pleasure, and humbling to be involved in showing each new person that they are able to do something that most never believed they were capable of.
It has also been a pleasure to sit with many of you in private consultation to develop your meditation practice, discuss life's challenges and come up with ways of navigating life more artfully - the human experience really is a fascinating one.
I hope that you have all enjoyed your contact with The Meditation Centre this year and we look forward to another great year furthering your meditation and experiences in 2012.
The final significant event for the year is The Conscious Club event at Bondi Pavilion on Monday night (see below). Be sure to join us to round off a great year of conscious development.
With warm regards,
Jai Guru Deva
Tim

Miranda Darling
In Praise of the Smaller Pleasures. . .
There is much talk these days of happiness: what it is, where to find it, what it’s like to hunt for it in vain. I have struggled myself with confusion over where life is going, whether I will ever meet the ‘right’ person, would I ever do what I was ‘destined’ to do – and what was that anyway? Was I doing enough? Too much? The soundtrack to the inside of my head sounded like a carnival fun-fair. There were too many choices, and yet there were not enough.
I have been a meditator for over five years now, and that music in my head has calmed down. I have much of the clarity I used to long for. I also have a theory on happiness: it is about re-learning to take pleasure in the small things, the quotidian satisfactions. If you can do this, there are just so many more reasons to be happy every day.
Miranda's latest book, The Siren's Sting is out now.
